(formerly Jim O'Sullivan Photography, just renamed & rebranded to be more reflective of the type of photos created)

Typically, an entire weekend is scheduled as it's easier for volunteers, for 7 hours each day! If a third (or more) day is needed due to shift schedules, I can accommodate that as well!
*weekday scheduling is possible as well if that works better for your department

No appointments are necessary for photos to be taken! Your department's members have the flexibility to work around their plans to show up any time during the scheduled session times for their photos

It takes longer to get geared up (or dressed in Class A/B uniforms) than to get the picture taken! I like to get everyone in & out as quickly as possible so they can go on with their day.
After your photo session, you'll receive proofs of your department photos within 3–4 weeks, with final prints delivered shortly after you approve them. There’s no limit on proof revisions—I understand your department is making an important investment, and I’m committed to making sure you get exactly what you want
All department photos are created as metal prints, where the dyes are infused directly into a specially coated aluminum sheet. And because the image is infused into the surface and not on it, your department photo will take on an almost magical luminescence. The ultra-hard scratch-resistant surface is waterproof/weatherproof and can be cleaned easily - just avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading. The print is finished with a float mount hanger attached to the back of the print, and float the print 1/2-inch off the wall when hung.

In the heartbreaking event of a department member’s passing any time after a department session — whether from natural causes or a Line of Duty Death — Thin Line Department Photos is honored to support the family by providing them with a complimentary framed 16x20 memorial portrait that can be used at the funeral/memorial service at no cost. Just reach out, and I'll coordinate with my print lab to rush the portrait’s production and ensure delivery within 3–5 days
Thin Line Department Photos was initially founded as Jim O'Sullivan Photography in 2014. After 11 succesful years of working with fire & police departments across North Carolina (thank you to all!!), Jim rebranded the business in 2025 as Thin Line Department Photos to make the name more reflective of the type of work created
With nearly 20 years of volunteer firefighter service, Jim brings a deep understanding of the emergency services to every department photo he creates—capturing the heart and spirit of the job through his lens
Jim’s life in the fire service began long before he could walk. His father volunteered for over 45 years, eventually rising to the rank of Chief of the Goshen Fire Department. Following in his dad’s footsteps, Jim joined Goshen Fire in 1996 at the age of 17, serving as a truckie with the Minisink Hook & Ladder Company for nearly a decade before moving away from his hometown
In 2009, after relocating to Mebane, North Carolina, he joined Mebane Fire Department, volunteering there for eight years. As his photography business grew and family life picked up, Jim found it increasingly difficult to respond to calls and made the tough decision to step away—never wanting to take a roster spot he couldn't fully commit to
Though no longer on the roster, Jim has found the perfect way to stay connected to the fire service. Through his photography, he continues to honor the camaraderie, dedication, and legacy of those who serve
